A closer look at the landscape, the logistics and the independent people who work here.
On the ground
Dublin is the practical arrival point for many Ireland elopements, with the widest choice of accommodation, beauty teams and transport. Within an hour or two, the city gives way to Wicklow's mountain roads, blanket bog, Lough Tay and the two lakes at Glendalough.
The region works especially well for couples who want landscape without committing to a multi-day west-coast drive. A city ceremony can be followed by portraits in Wicklow, or a rural venue can keep the whole day within one compact area. Allow extra time on the Sally Gap: narrow roads, walkers and fast-changing mist make map estimates optimistic.
Wicklow Mountains National Park requires a permit for commercial photography, and the Glendalough monastic site can be busy through the middle of the day. Confirm permissions in advance, start early on summer weekends and keep a sheltered alternative near the chosen venue.
