Cliffs, Burren & the West Coast, Ireland

On the ground

What to know before choosing the date.

County Clare and Galway deliver the Ireland most couples picture first: the Cliffs of Moher, limestone pavements in the Burren, Connemara roads, stone ruins and Atlantic weather moving visibly across the horizon. Galway is the useful base; Doolin and Lahinch put couples closer to the cliffs.

Clifftop ceremonies need more planning than the photographs suggest. The official Cliffs of Moher Experience welcomes special-occasion enquiries, while many quieter ceremony spots sit on private land and require permission from the landowner. Access, parking and a genuinely safe distance from the edge should be agreed with a local planner or photographer.

Wind can make audio, flowers and loose hairstyles difficult even on a dry day. Pair one exposed location with a sheltered ruin, pub or indoor venue, and avoid turning Galway, Connemara and the Cliffs into a single rushed itinerary.
